I think I initially posted this in the wrong forum. I'm sorry for the duplication...

We just found out that our current steam boiler needs to be replaced (instead of repaired). Our first estimate came to $8,000! Is that normal? Of course we'll get other estimates but I had no idea the cost of living in such an old house (built in the 1800s so no chance of upgrading to a different form of heating).

The estimate included:
Remove existing steam boiler and clean up debris.
Install a Burnham IN6 steam boiler with controls.
Install inter-connecting piping between new boiler and existing system.
Set up boiler operation and skim-off internal oils from manufacturing process.

I think there are 11-12 radiators in total for the house which is two story, 1465 feet plus a basement.

Thanks in adavance,
K
