A two-pipe residential system with vented radiators still requires a main vent on the supply main. Relying on vents on the radiators alone slows heating considerably.

Other two-pipe systems that don't have vents on the radiators, but have traps, have a main vent on the return near the boiler.

In other words, there are main vents to move the air on the heating cycle to prevent what you are experiencing.

Most plumbers aren't experienced in a variety of steam systems, just a few of one type in the area they come across.
