Main Vents

We purchased a 1928 home with a Single Pipe steam stytem with a wet return.

We had the system serviced to check the operation and change all the filters... the tech said the boiler and burner were in great condition and working perfectly.

But,
Problem 1) Last winter, we experienced a problem with the system taking a very long time before the radiators began to get hot (the system might run for 45 min of more before you started to feel anything at the radiators). After looking over the system to try and determine a cause, I noticed that our system doesn’t have any main vents in the basement. Is this possible?? I went to the end of each main and there is nothing there. Could they be somewhere else?

Problem 2) after all the radiators get hot one radiator on the second floor makes a gurgling/ whooshing sound. We replaced the vent and made sure that the radiator had a good pitch back to the value in order properly drain the water. This seemed to fix the water spitting out the valve but we still have a gurgling/ whooshing sound. Does this mean that the radiator and (or) valve needs to be replaced?
Any help/insight would be appreciated
