For further background if there are any other thoughts in the forum, we will be using the same "mechanic" in either case who was selected by reputation in the area.
All three contractors that we got bids on use Burnham whereas this contractor additionally uses (and suggests) Carrier. (A fourth used Buderus but we eliminated them based on reputation and price.) We are repairing the system because we have a 50+ year old pink Penn Boiler (Pebbco) which is in need of $1000 of repairs (two similar estimates) and still having an inefficient 50+ year old boiler or replacing for $4000.
