You got a REAL old-timer, because the manufacturers have been saying to put the circulator 'pumping away' for 100 years. He must be older, or in all that time never heard what the manufacturer's were saying to everyone else..

By increasing the pressure to 23 lbs he probably let some dirt loose that caught in the impeller. A 007 Taco has all its parts inside the case, so isn't affected by the pressure change otherwise.
