I totally understand this and that's why I haven't gone out and gotten any additional quotes at this point in time. BUT....he has explained what the price includes but will not break the cost down between labor and materials for example. I know from talking to him what his expectation is for how many hours this job will take. When I look at the retail cost of the boiler (I'm assuming that the retail cost will already have a mark-up given that he probably gets a discount from the plumbing supply house he deals with) and the incidental parts and subtract that from the total - his hourly rate appears to be more than double what he generally charges.
This is the reason for the questions.
