I am switching from one-pipe steam to hot water. My husband cut out an 1-1/4" valve holding radiator in place. Radiator is about 30" high 4" deep and 30" wide. We are reconnecting with 1/2" copper supply and return lines. Because the radiator is so tall and "skinny" (not deep), I am nervous to leave the radiator like that because of children in the house. All a child has to do is try to hang on the radiator or pull it out, and it could tip over. I have to secure radiator to wall. Behind radiator at wall is old fashioned molding that comes out from the wall about 3/4". If I put a piece of wood, about 1" thick across the back of the radiator, and secure the radiator with a few bolts and washers, will that interfere with the operation of the radiator. In other words, will the piece of wood behind the radiator block air flow and interfere with the heat output of the radiator. Are there alternatives to securing the radiator to the wall.
