To realy save money, you have to get rid of the tankless coil and get an indirect water heater fed off the boiler. Run the boiler cold start so it only comes on when it gets a call for heat or hot water. High efficency boilers are usually 3 pass design: Buderus, Biasi, Crown Freeport. Get some high tech boiler controls like the Tekmar 260 to give you outdoor temp reset. For the garage, I recommend a fancoil (Radiator with a blower fan) on a seperate zone. You'll get quicker warm up with a forced air type system. Baseboard or a radiator in a garage would have to be turned on hours before to bring the room up to temp.
