A new boiler would not give much more than 5% efficiency increase, as oil boilers are subject to the efficiency of the burner setup. If your oil repairman does a great job, keep him, he is a gem. $1200 per year for an old house is not bad. Trying to squeeze another $100 per year out of what you have may cost you far more in the next few years. Shopping around for oil lets you find the oil supplier who just ran a load of asphalt as well as others. If you want a new boiler, then go for it for the peace of mind; however, the old casting is not going anywhere soon.
