Try to see if it lights off quickly. A delayed ignition will put too much oil in for the chimney. Air leaks into the line will cause bubbles that can expand and push oil in after shut off so there is too much. All oil fittings must be flared. Flare nuts have a taper behind the hex. Compression fittings that leak are square shouldered. See that barometric damper swings freely.
