Also, with copper-tube baseboard systems, a closed hand valve to the pressure reducing valve will not allow the infinite amount of water in the reservoir to pass through the house while you are away.

If you antifreeze the system, all leaks in your system will have to be repaired, a low-water cutoff installed to prevent burner runaway, and a closed hand valve will keep your system from being diluted by fresh water making up for leaks.

In other words, a SEALED system will prevent damage, especially if there is only pure clean water inside the system to evaporate if a gallon is lost from a break.
