You are not talking about heating the
house, but only the DMW. I do not
think there is a way to insulate the
furnace as it is actually engaged in
combustion.
When my old farmhouse oil steam burner
was doing that I installed a electric
DHW heater and bypassed the furnace.
With the cost of oil as it is I am
probably at a break even, but I now
have many gallons of DHW.
