After doing a little more research, I noticed that they installed a 10" nipple between the first and second loops. Is 10" too long?

If the nipple height is too high, adding water to the system should lessen the water hammer, correct, not exacerbate the problem?

: No, a new boiler shouldn't lose that much water without a leak.

: Your problem might be a misplaced Hartford Loop, as a new boiler and the old aren't usually the same height nor water-line. See the installation sheet for the height.

: Alse, make sure the pressure is right, the pipes are sloped properly and the radiators didn't sag nor have closed or the wrong valves - per instructions here:
