What did you do differently top get your post to show? You may have other options. Venting up through the floor into the back of a closet, cabinet, interior wall, under stairs, etc and then out. Wall hung boiler or other compact unit mounted on first floor out of the way. Clearance to windows and such is more to meet code for CO poisoning or noxious exhaust and should be the same for most equipment. A standing pilot may be a smarter investment for intermittent usage. More reliable and will stay on during electric outages, if there is a layout for some gravity feed to radiation while you are gone. You could have one decent radiator above it. Or put in a good unvented space heater as backup. A thermostatic LP fireplace could do that. Leave doors ajar to spread heat and set it to minimum.
