Stack Control "Reset" Button?

I have an old oil-fired steam boiler. There is a stack control that monitors the temp of exhaust to make sure that the flame is on. It's been replaced 2 years ago, so it's pretty new. This stack control has a big red "reset" button. Under what conditions this button would trip?
