Is the boiler running all year to pre-heat the water? That's wastefull. Get a heat loss calc done on the house. It's been changed a great deal over the years and the best way to save fuel is to have the boiler's BTU's match the load of the house. The better high efficency boilers don't offer tankless coils. I'd suggest a good indirect HW heater. Find a contractor that spends the time to go over the heat loss and the piping scheme with you.
