Settting the steam pressure over 3 psig will damage valves and vents. The nuts that surround the stems of valves can be repacked with oakum or available packing material, a cord-like fiber packing while the steam is off and the valve cooled.

Forcing steam at high pressure will accelerate water losses. There might be leaks in the system that will have to be found.
