Well, we're there every other weekend or so. In the past, we didn't shut off the water at all. The guy at Petro (who services our furnace) told me we could potentially ruin the system by letting the seals and gaskets dry out. But this year our (4 year old) furnace failed to start on a single digit temperature night, the low temp alarm went off, and I drove two hours to open the house for the Petro tech. I decided I was more concerned about ruining the whole rest of the house from a geyser than replacing just the hot water coil.

What is NEPA anyway? And is it easy to add antifreeze? IS it regular car antifreeze?

Thank you for your responses - Rebecca;
