I just want to add that if improvements have been made over the years to the home: insulation, new double/triple glased windows, etc., you should only need a smaller boiler. If you're planning on insualtion and improving the house, do that first so you can calculate the right size boiler for your new heat loss. Biggest saving in fuel will come from right-sizing the heating system.
