Just a followup: I used the fiberglass insulation around the header piping and other near boiler piping as well as some other pipes. The flashing turned out to be too much of a pain in the butt because of some clearance issues and all the bends, so I used that contact sensitive thermal foil tape instead.

It all seems to be working great. 10deg cooler in the basement at least. Getting better steam seems to have caused some water hammer issues, so now onto checking radiator pitching and fixing vents..
