temporary removal of base board heat

i need to remove a section of base board heat to get behind it and rebuild wall.i found the line shut off and the drain valve above it.this is a two zone system.is it necessary to shut off heater to drain the upstairs zone?and is there any problem with just opening up the shut off when i'm done after i reconnect baseboard like bleeding line?
