DHW coil to direct fired water heater?

Hi -

I've just bought a house that has a Weil-Mclain 68 Boiler
(468) with a tankless coil for DHW. The output of the coil
leads to the input of a propane fired water-heater.

Does this configuration make sense? If I shutdown the boiler, the cold water will just flow through it to the water heater, right?

That brings up one other question; This is my first boiler. I've downloaded and read the owner's manual for the boiler. But it doesn't mention any thring about shutting the boiler down after the heating season.

can that/should that be done? I live in Maryland, and it w
would seem silly to me to have the boiler running if it's 95 degrees outside
