You must use monoflow fitting or a diverter valve to force the hot water to go into the kick. Path of least resistance for the water is to continue straight to the radiator.

Yes - I tapped off the supply and return pipes going to the radiator. I will change out the straight T's - now do I have to change both or just the supply? Thanks for your input.
