I had the owner of my oil sales/service company service the unit again. I upgraded the nozzle to 1.15, shoveled out enough crud in the firebox to fill 1 1/2 five gallon buckets, and replaced the ceramic casing. Apparently the previous technician who had serviced the unit for the last few years (according to the tag) cut a few corners. The unit works like a charm now, and will get up to 180 degrees within an hour (there still is a lot of heavy pipe/water/radiator to heat).

He didn't charge me for the 3-4 hour return visit, so apparently realized that the original yearly maintenence left something to be desired. I will stick with the company, but will not let the original serviceman step into the house again. He should be fired.

Thanks for your help and advice.
