If you short the TT terminals be sure to take the thermostat wires off so you don't 'bounce' the voltage and harm the thermostat. Yes, a thermostat is a 'jumper' that closes a set of contacts, much like putting a wire across TT.

FF is for the flame detector (cad cell) usually yellow wires into the burner to 'see' the flame.
