Expansion tanks for boiler use have the metal on the water side. Bladders for well tanks and domestic water use have the water within the bladder so the metal is not rusted away by the oxygen in the fresh water. I am using a Flotec 15 gallon well water expansion tank successfully for years now. If you choose to use this kind of tank run at least 6 feet or tubing from the heating circuit to the remote tank so it is not subject to hot water reaching the inside of the tank.
