also, If you use a straight tap, it will not have a taper for the male thread to go against except at a circle. If it was opened up too much, you can drill and tap for the next pipe size up and use a reducing bushing. I would put the bushing in with no pipe dope if it fit well and put some on the vent so it removes easily. The holes should wear out much slower than the vents.
