: New modulating boilers like the Munchkin can run heating at lower condensing temperatures and then ramp up to 180 to make hot water when needed- the best of both worlds!

Thanks Dave - but that seems to be the problem. Is a condensing boiler worth the extra cost (2X) if it will not be able to provide increased efficiency during a substantial part of the year (lets say from Dec through March - 5 months)? Obviously the condensing operation can be utilized during the shoulder periods (April, May, October, November). Will the boiler cold start automatically when only needed for DHW during non-heating months, or is this an extra control? Sorry for all the questions but the responses have me going in circles.
