We hear this pitch in different areas with different brands depending upon the sales ability and style of salesmen. Logic provides that if a company produces a majority of bad castings for four years that there would be a recall and bankrupcy announcement as the warrantee replacements are the same castings used in manufacture. I am sure their plumbing/heating supplier customers would drop them sooner. Many castings are made by one casting manufacturer for several of the residential boiler brands, so the problem would spread enormously. Take the story of large casting failures by one brand as a dumb pitch to sell more expensive steel boilers. On the flip side, steel boilers are very dependable provided the plumber puts them in a system with no leaks.
