Strictly speaking you we need MI (manufacturers instructions) to do wrk on an appliance. However if he first lets all the air out of the expansion vessel, notes the pressure on the guage puts a bicycle pump to the vessel and pumps it up until the guage reads 0.5 to 0.75 bar more he'd be able to eliminate that part of the equation.
