If you go to the older forum (Forum #1) you'll find several earlier queries on this very subject.
On most of them, Harold has referred the poster to one of his sites that has very good instructions
for purging air from the system. Sorry, I haven't bookmarked them or I would give you the URL.
If you can power purge the zones, you don't even need vents at the radiators, you'll get all the
air out with the purge.
But no, you shouldn't have to leave the water on to keep the boiler full. If you do, there are
leaks, and the leaks should be repaired rather than continuing to add water to a leaky system.
When you add water, you are also adding the oxygen that the water contains. Water plus oxygen
plus ferrous metals = rust.
