If you have a mechanical float LWC it should be blown down monthly or by mfr spec to limit build up on moving parts. You should do the same at the bottom of the boiler and wet returns if you have one there. If blr has been off the sediment will resettle near the blow-off. The gauge glass gets mostly floaters so annually should be good to blow it down, under pressure to clean the glass etc. The auto-feeder will do as it says it will. The manual feed is in case the LWC or auto feed fails. You can blow enough out to test it. Don'tr add lots of cold ware to a hot blr. Gauge glass valves are for blowing one down at a time (through the blowdown petcock)and to shut both to replace or clean the glass. They stay open normally. Test the try cocks under steam also, steam out of top one water out of bottom.
