If you have one-pipe steam system, the radiators 'bleed' themselves on each cycle. Hot water system radiators have a little valve on the top of one end that takes a little square key such as used on roller skates or clocks. They can be bought at hardware stores. The water in heating systems is not replaced all the time as in a teakettle so you shouldn't build up deposits. A coil made for heating your domestic (drinking) water in a boiler can build up as it is fresh.
