Propane is as expensive as electric heat now. Your sweep is going to find the actual cost of his change very soon. Oil is less than half the price per unit of heat. The direct vented gas furnace makes the gas units closer in efficiency to oil, but oil heaters have always had controlled power combustion in the burner. There is no valid reason a long-lasting chamber cannot be fitted to your unit. Peerless might be able to provide an exact replacement, if not, wet pack chambers are installed regularly. Many modern wet-base boilers do not need a chamber at all while using a flame-retention burner. Get some opinions and estimates from expert boiler repairmen.
