After reviewing the messages on this forum I still have a question regarding yearly maintenance on my steam heat. I bought my home at the end of this past winter and am completely new to using steam heat. I just realized that I should have a yearly cleaning/inspection of the system; however, I have called almost all of the folks who do this sort of work in Springfield, MA and everyone has told me that they are not accepting new customers. What can I do myself in case I don't find someone in time for this winter? I am capable of doing minor home fix-up/maintenance stuff if I have a manual. Any good ones that explain stean heat inside and out? The boiler is newer (2 years or so) and except for getting used to radiator heat I didn't have any problems this past season excepting some hissing from time to time. I did drain settled particles out once a week during the season. It is now turned off (gas and electric switch).
