Hot air can be zoned if one uses a two-stage furnace and zone duct dampers. When you do this the technology becomes beyond the ability of the majority of techs to fix it and it becomes a nightmare after the first failures. Then it complicates using the ducts for air conditioning as well.

Almost any plumber can fix hot water zones.
