I live in a 6 storey apt. bldg. in NYC that was built c. 1910. I don't know how old the steam heat system is, but here's the problem: it's NOISY! Not a very original complaint, I know, but it's incredibly loud--not tap-tap-tap, more like BANG-CLANG-BANG--every time the heat gose on. This stops after a few minutes, but during those minutes... Have spoken to the super. about this several times, but he just says there's nothing he can do [radiators are draining properly and valves were changed]. The problem isn't just with the radiators themselves, but also with the pipes running floor to ceiling THROUGH the apt.--if anything, the upright pipes are often noisier than the radiators. Have spent months of sleepless nights [earplugs only do so much!]--is there anything at all that can be done for this problem?
Thank you.
