I am trying to remove an old cast iron steam radiator from my friends kitchen. I can only move the nut connecting the radiator to the water pipe an inch in either direction and no further. First off, I am unsure which direction to turn the nut to remove the radiator, either up or down, I've tried both directions. If it makes any difference to anyone reading this, the water feed pipe is on the right side of the radiator. Secondly, I could use some advice as to how I can get the nut to turn at all before I strip it. I was told that sometimes an old pipe has to be heated up before the nut will turn properly due to rusting but I don't know if that's the case. Any advice on this subject would be appreciated.
