I apologize for the curt reply. It would help to keep on track with only pertinent info, not history of homes of Illinois, it is bad enough that most people don't search downward etc or go find FAQs etc for the basics, making helping here a lot of work. You are probably looking at the wrong thing in your boiler. You cut your ventilation rates I bet at the same time as firing that up. You cut your living space in half and am sending plenty of moisture into the cooler sections, raising the relative humidity and growth rates also. You could start at the links at karg.com, get a Taylor max/min thermometer/hydrometer for $30 and check your spaces. Yes your boiler can push odors etc, but dumping the water and boiling the new should get that and hopefully your pipes are pitched to stay dry and hot to not breed things.
