I've drained a bucket full of water out of the boiler drain every fall. Water's always been pretty clear. The temp guage seems ok, indicates about 215 when the boiler cuts off (is that too hot?). I get good heat on the hot supply pipe 10 feet away, and my radiators get good and hot. Based on your blowdown question, I just drained another gallon or so of water from the boiler drain, looked ok. I used the autofill valve to replace the water I took out, and bring the pressure back up to 15 psi (it was at about 10 before I took out the gallon). Get this - no more banging. I'm wondering if it was the gallon I took out, or the two I put back in?
