Blow down or not?

Many of the posts on this board mention the importance of blowing down the boiler. It has to be done
to make sure that sediment and dirt are washed out, so boiler operates properly.

On the other hand, many posts warn about introducing fresh water to a boiler that may result in corrosion.

If you are going to blow down the boiler every week, you will have to add fresh water every week. Is this
a contradiction?

What can be done to minimize impact of fresh water? Is it really necessary to blow down boiler every
week?

Thank you,

Brian
