if the house was really old i would bet its asbestos. your house is not that old. after spending many years working with asbestos on piping in the navy, all i can tell you with 100%
surety is that insulation must be laboratory tested to determine if it really has asbestos in it. you, me, and no-one else can visually determine this. have a lab test it out for you. it may just be cellulose.
