Flooded Radiator/vent

If doing the venting by hand works and the automatic vent doesn't, I would lean toward venting faster. If you replaced all those radiators with baseboard, you lost a lot of volume. Does the system come up to pressure fast now? Put a 1/4" pipe nipple and ball valve in place of the vent. Open the valve and turn up the stat, close valve as soon as you get a blast of steam and see if that works. The vent should be mounted low for steam. The radiator valve should be wide open. Don't confuse water stuck in the vent with water in radiator. And wet steam isn't the same as flooding, as in full of liquid. Make sure your pressure is set low, your vent might not be reopening to let water out.
