Thanks again. I took another look at my pipes inthe basement and lo and behold, within a few feet of my boiler there was a narrrow pipe rising from my main steam line (that goes to the first to heat up of the forur rads on the first floor. Just under the subfloor, at the top of this vertical pipe was a device that looks similar to the vents on my radiators. I guess this is the elusive "main vent." I'm wondering how easy it will be to find a new one. My concern is that if I take it off, I might not be able to get it back on, and might not be able to quickly find a new one. Are some tough to find? Also, I don't understand why, since it comes in the line before the first radiator to heat up, only the fourth (and last radiator on the first floor) would fail to heat up. Why would steam move into the other three but not the fourth?
I don't know where you find the time to help so many people out. Thank you again.
