We have a very old oil boiler that will no longer start unless the reset button on the stack switch is pushed. It runs fine after that until the thermostat temp is reached, but will not turn on again once the temperature drops. We then have to hit the reset button again. There also seems to be quite a bit of soot around the boiler.
Need to call the service man, but was hoping to get some idea of what the problem might be.
