You need to get your pressure reduduced to the minimum. A valve is something you can grab and turn shut, otherwise it is probably an air vent. If the vent has flats to put wrenches on you can take it apart and try viegar and a soft brush etc. Otherwise if your pressure is low and it doesn't shut when it gets hot - throw it away and get a new one. If you leak so much steam that you don't get pressure up, your pressure control won't stop it as it should and it will run until the steam has satisfied your thermostat and watered your plants for you while it is removing wallpaper and everything beneath it. Take care of the vents and then come back.
