Do you have cast iron baseboard the length of the room or, or separate radiators? With one pipe steam the water has to flow back on it's own ability at all times. The steam has to go from the boiler to the furthest points in a continuously uphill route so that the water can flow back the same one-pipe. Even eccentric reducers are used where the pipe bottoms align to allow all water back or it will get thrown to the next corner, giving water hammer noise. Make sure your inlet valve is wide open. You have to have an air vent at the far ends so steam can push the air out. Remove the vent when the pressure is up to see if it heats then. Don't leave with it out, or come back with your plastering tools.
