I doubt you did any damage, but don't overdo the chemicals. The big thing is to keep solids from building up in the bottom of the boiler and cutting off water flow to where it gets very hot resulting in a new expensive boiler. Or blocking the bottom guage glass fitting or mechanical low water cut-off.
