As district energy can generate electricity and make use of the heat after the process, there is an economy of scale. Professionals monitoring large plant efficiency can maintain efficiencies better than homeowners and maintenance crews. Residences and small commercial buildings can now make electricity with a fuel cell and perhaps use the heat from the process, so the concept can spread to make more efficient use of energy.
