I beg to differ with the previous post. With proper maintenance we do not find the heating elements to be constantly failing. I have been a representative for an electric boiler manufacturer for over ten years. We are finding you get years of service with these elements as long as scale (ie: water quality) is kept under control. Each element costs under $400 each, and is very easy to replace.
When doing cost comparison you must also realize that electric boilers are about 98% efficient, as there is no stack, compared with a maximum of 80% for a gas fired steam boiler.
